The Hampton Roads Rowing Club is a non-profit athletic and social organization dedicated to promoting health, fitness, and fun through the sport of rowing. As part of the Norfolk Rowing Center, HRRC has a goal to foster recreational and competitive rowing in Southeastern Virginia. HRRC rows on the beautiful Lafayette River in Norfolk, and is comprised of approximately 100 members.
HRRC is committed to providing an environment for any level of rowing. This ranges from members who want to keep fit and socialize to the aspiring international. As a club we participate in local and national competitive regattas. Year-round rowing is available for both scullers and sweep rowers. Coached hours are available 5 days a week. However, members are welcome to (and do) row during daylight hours seven days a week, weather permitting.
Learn to Row returning this summer! Initially, you will learn to scull (2 oars), but will also get a taste of sweep (one oar). There will be 1 coach in the boat and one in a safety launch with you at all times, so you will always have someone nearby to work with you.
Don’t be overwhelmed: everyone starts in the same place. It can be a lot to take in at first, but we keep the class size small so that the coaches are there for you every step. Even the coaches were in your shoes at one time, and we all remember the first time we picked up an oar.
“Harmony, balance, rhythm. There you have it. That is what life's all about.'”
