NORFOLK, VA – The second annual Hampton Roads Rowing Club high school scholarship was awarded Saturday afternoon following the Eastern Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association (EVSRA) championships at Norfolk’s Botanical Gardens. The scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school senior rowers who exemplify excellence in athletics, scholarship, leadership and community involvement. The two $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Daniel Smith of Granby High School in Norfolk and Brittany Cummings of First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach. Daniel is the captain of the Granby Crew Team and has been recruited to Mary Washington University where he will study Business/Finance. Brittany is the president of the First Colonial Crew Team and was the fastest U.S. Junior Woman Rower at the 2006 World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston, MA. She has been recruited to Clemson University where she will study Nursing/Health Sciences. The Hampton Roads Rowing Club is committed to supporting superior student-athletes in their pursuit of collegiate rowing and will continue to offer this scholarship annually.
