Learn to Row

We are thrilled to announce Learn to Row is back this summer! The class will teach you to scull (2 oars) and sweep (1 oar). There will be a coach in a safety launch with you at all times. The class includes six 2-hour sessions and will teach you the fundamentals of rowing.

The cost is $250 and includes a membership to HRRC for the remainder of the calendar year. You’ll have access to the club boats, open rows, coaching, and ability to join/set up a boat.

Don’t be overwhelmed: everyone starts in the same place. It can be a lot to take in at first, but we keep the class size small so that the coaches are there for you every step. Even the coaches were in your shoes at one time, and we all remember the first time we picked up an oar.

Take if from Jennifer T, “Participating in Learn to Row was one of the best surprises of 2023 for me. I look forward to more rowing work and play in 2024, and have already forwarded LTR info to a handful of friends.”

About HRRC

The Hampton Roads Rowing Club is a non-profit athletic and social organization dedicated to promoting health, fitness, and fun through the sport of rowing. As part of the Norfolk Rowing Center, HRRC has a goal to foster recreational and competitive rowing in Southeastern Virginia. HRRC rows on the beautiful Lafayette River in Norfolk, and is comprised of approximately 100 members.

HRRC is committed to providing an environment for any level of rowing. This ranges from members who want to keep fit and socialize to the aspiring international. As a club we participate in local and national competitive regattas. Year-round rowing is available for both scullers and sweep rowers. Coached hours are available 5 days a week. However, members are welcome to (and do) row during daylight hours seven days a week, weather permitting.
